Everywhere you go the story of threats of attack or being an unfortunate victim of terrorists / kidnappers, or those now referred to as Bandits has become the order of the day.

Killings in the country as a whole, especially in the North East and North West has become part of what is called ‘’the new normal’’ to the extent that citizens have lost the sacredness of life because of killings in large numbers and almost on a daily basis.

It is with this mind that THIRD CORD LIMITED, consider this security advise / tips necessary as part of our Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) to sensitize through these tips our esteemed clients in particular and the general public to be more security wise, in view of the present level of insecurity / threats to lives and properties across the Country.

The sensitization is equally timely as it coincides with the beginning of “ember” months (September to December) when there is usually increase in crimes and criminal activities due to the desire at all cost to participate in the end of the year celebrations.

This therefore is a period of the year when the nation’s security agencies and their arrangements are expected to be at their best. However, as one will expect, there will always be excuses for failure of not living up to the public’s expectations in ensuring minimal threat to security of life and properties.

In the light of the introductory remarks above, we need to constantly bear in mind that, the best security is self security.

  • To be self secured therefore, you may wish to take note of the following security advice:
    Political rallies, are the flashpoints for thuggery EDO & ONDO Governorships Elections are around the corners and there is proliferations of small and light weapons in the country, heinous crimes are usually the order of the day during election campaigns, be extra careful if you must attend any political rallies.
  • It is strongly suggested, that we monitor through the mass media (television, radio, newspaper, etc) political events from the safe comfort of our homes and offices.
  • It is strongly advice that we should not openly identify with any political party by:
  1. Announcing our political persuasions.
  2. Allowing the pasting of political posters on our cars, houses or wearing their monogrammed T- shirts and caps.

We would be guiding yourself against possible reprisal attacks from political opponents.

  • Don’t let us grant the use of our properties or vehicles for electioneering campaigns. If we are supporting any candidate, let us make it covert as much as possible.
  • Don’t let us be too quick to divulge our true identity to unfamiliar people.
  • Let us monitor constantly the mass media to keep abreast of what is happening around and beyond us, so as to know where there are crisis.

This period is also one, in which kidnapping incidents are reported, you may find the following pro-active measures useful:

  • Avoid taking a ride in the vehicle of a stranger, no matter the circumstance.
  • Don’t let us allow our kids to venture out of the house once it is dark.
  • If we are transiting within the metropolis or outside it in a public bus, let us be sure that we board the bus from the main terminus. (For fear of “one chance”).
  • Let us avoid keeping late night as much as possible
  • Let your loved ones know your whereabouts at any given time.
  • In our interest, whenever in uniform or not stop our vehicles, we should stay calm and avoid hissing and grubbing.
  • It is advisable to delete all our bank transactions and transfer sensitive information of our banking transactions in a flash drive or memory card.
  • Let us learn to keep our finance transactions a way from our phones.
  • When our vehicle is been searched by any law enforcement agent don’t just look away in anger, pay close attention to what is going on to avoid had I known’
  • If we are not sure of what someone is carrying in a bag, pack, sack please ask politely before accepting to give the person a ride to avoid being arrested for what you know nothing about.
  • After any stranger we decide to give a ride comes down from our vehicle, move forward a little, park and search your vehicle very before continuing your journey in order to avoid embarrassment from law enforcement agents.
